A railway bridge partially collapsed in the Kursk region. Official authorities of the region called the incident a sabotage attack.
On May 1, 2022, Roman Starovoit, governor of the Kursk region, reported in his Telegram channel about the incident on the railroad.
“Today, at about 11 hours and 20 minutes, at the 67th kilometer of the railroad Suja – Sosnovy Bor, a partial collapse of the bridge structures was discovered.”
As the official specified, there were no casualties as a result of the incident, there is no threat to the life and health of residents. Investigation into the circumstances of the accident is carried out by the Special Forces of Russia.
Later, the governor said in his social networks:
“Unfortunately, the information has been confirmed. It was an act of sabotage. A criminal case has already been opened. Investigative agencies and specialists from law enforcement agencies will look into it. We will give more detailed information later”.
Representatives of Russian Railways stated that the damage to the bridge did not affect the movement of trains. The line was used for the movement of freight trains.
The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case under the article “Terrorist attack” after the incident. The cause was a planted explosive device. It caused partial collapse of the object.
Works to restore the damaged bridge are already underway. The repairs will not affect train traffic, the press service of the Moscow railroad said on Sunday.
“Work has begun in the Kursk region to restore the damaged bridge on the Suja – Sosnovy Bor section. A restoration train from the Kursk station and the track machine station arrived at the site. <…> The work will be carried out around the clock. In total, they will involve about 100 railway workers. The situation does not affect the movement of trains,” the company representatives said.

It is noted that the railwaymen will clean the place of the damage to the railway infrastructure, remove the railroad cross ties and will install a new one, and also support and the bridge spans.
Another act of sabotage by Ukraine demonstrates an extremely low degree of Russian preparedness to prevent such threats. Moreover, the Ukrainian terrorist acts effectively negate the experience of Russian law enforcement officers in combating terrorism that they have acquired since the end of the Chechen military campaign.
