On January 23, clashes between the Syrian army and the Jaish al-Islam militant group continued in the Eastern Ghouta region near Damascus despite a fact that both sides were involved in the Astana peace talks started at the same day.
Since January 22, Jaish al-Islam units have launched over 4 attacks against government forces positions at the village of Hazrama. As result of heavy clashes the militants have seized some points in the area. Clashes are still ongoing there.
The Syrian military has responded with a series of airstrikes across Eastern Ghouta, targeting Jaish al-Islam military equipment and manpower.
According to local pro-government sources, at least 1 vehicle belonging to the militant group was destroyed and 7 Jaish al-Islam members were killed. However, this still has to be confirmed.
