On the evening of March 17, the Ministry of State Security of Transnistria reported an attack on the local military base by unidentified kamikaze UAV.
There are no casualties. The base hosted military helicopters of the Armed Forces of Transnistria. The target was a Mi-8MT helicopter, which was destroyed by the UAV. According to the Ministry of the State Security the drone came from the direction of the Clover Bridge in the Odessa region of Ukraine.
“Today, a fire took place on the territory of one of the military units of Tiraspol, which broke out as a result of an explosion. It was previously established that the explosion thundered as a result of a kamikaze drone attack, the flight of which was recorded from the side of the Clover Bridge,” the ministry’s press service reported.
Law enforcement agencies are working on the spot, and a criminal case has been opened.
The direction of the strike confirm that it was launched from the Ukrainian territory. Footage showed that this was a quite small UAV of an aircraft type. The drone targeted the helicopter, which confirms that this was not an accident but an attack on the territory of Transnistria.
Any additional details are yet to shed light on the incident; but it is not difficult to name the main beneficiaries of any sharp escalation in Transnistria, especially amid the ongoing presidential elections in the Russian Federation.
