On September 7, the Russian Ministry of Defense officially confirmed the control of Russian-led forces of the town of Kodema located to the west of Svetlodarsk.
After months of heavy fighting, the assault units of the Wagner group completed the mop up operation on the western outskirts of Kodema, establishing full control over the town. The battle for Kodema began in mid-July.
“As a result of successful offensive actions in the Donetsk People’s Republic, units of the Russian armed forces have completely liberated the settlement of Kodema from nationalists.” the Russian MOD reported in the daily briefing.
The Russian control of Kodema will allow Russian forces to develop an offensive towards Zaitsevo and further blockade the city of Bakhmut from the south.
Meanwhile, positional battles continue in the western regions of Bakhmut and in Soledar. The artillery of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue shelling on the Ukrainian defenses.
