Jaysh al-Islam began building several new military bases and camps in the northern Aleppo countryside, only four months after its withdrawal from the region of Eastern Ghouta under an agreement with the Damascus government, the Syrian news outlet Enab Baladi reported on August 5.

According to the pro-opposition news outlet, the fighters of Jaysh al-Islam are currently following a new religious course, which identifies Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and the Kurdish Peoples Protection Units (YPG) as the key enemies of the group.
The pro-government news outlet al-Masdar News said that Jaysh al-Islam also began buying all kinds of weapons from smaller Free Syrian Army (FSA) groups in northern Syria in order to reestablish itself.
Jaysh al-Islam is infamous for being one of the wealthiest armed groups in Syria, as its leadership collected millions of USD through illegal taxes and activists. The groups is also accused of kidnapping, torturing and executing hundreds of civilians including opposition activists.
These new developments suggest that Jaysh al-Islam leadership is now planning to push its remaining fighters in any new armed conflict on the hopes of collecting more money, mainly from Turkey.
