Qais Alkhazali, leader of Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq [a part of the Popular Mobilization Units], welcomed the Iraqi Parliament’s decision to oppose an independence referendum promoted by the Kurdistan Region government and and emphasized his support to Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi in preserving Iraq’s integrity.

Earlier this week, the Iraqi Parliament voted against the independence referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan Region and obliged the Iraqi government to take measures to “preserve the unity of Iraq”.
In turn, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel officially supports “the legitimate efforts of the Kurdish people to attain a state of its own“.
