On December 1, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) uncovered weapons caches during security operations in the recently-liberated areas in southern Syria, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The weapons caches contained four US-made TOW anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), several rounds of the Czechoslovakian-made RPG-75 anti-tank weapon, dozens of Bulgarian-made RPG-7 rocket-propelled grenades, machine guns and more than 100,000 bullets of different calibers.

Most of these weapons were supplied by the US to the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in southern Syria between 2014 and 2017 under a “train and equip” program authorized by former U.S. President Barack Obama.

The vast majority of FSA fighters in southern Syria joined the reconciliation process earlier this year and handed over their weapons to the SAA. However, the radical militants who withdrew to the opposition-held part of northern Syria hide loads of weapons in order to use them to carry out terrorist attacks in the future.
