Russian forces were deployed along with the Syrian military police forces in several areas in the northern Homs countryside to monitor the de-escalation zone, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The northern Homs countryside is currently calm after the exchange of fire. The both sides appear to be committed to the agreement, although no militant group in northern Homs countryside has declared its support for the de-escalation agreement so far .

Earlier this week, the sides agreed to establish the  de-escalation zone in the northern Homs countryside as a result of negotiations in Egypt.

Ahmed al-Jarba, head of the Saudi-backed Syria’s Tomorrow Movement said that the United States welcomed the de-escalation agreement in the northern Homs countryside, adding that these agreements were not aimed against any country and that its aim was is only to protect the Syrian people.

“The shortest way to solve the Syrian crisis and the most effective is to communicate with the Russian side,” Al-Jarba said.

Al-Jarba’s participation in the Cairo negotiations confirms that Saudi Arabia was pushed to made some joint steps with Russia in Syria.
