On December 18, two more vessels came under attacks by the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement in the Red Sea. Representatives of the movement claimed responsibility for the attacks.
According to the Houthis, the targets included oil tanker Swan Atlantic and the cargo ship MSC Clara, linked to the Israeli regime. They were hit by two combat drones after the crews refused to heed a warning from the Yemeni armed forces
The spokesman fr the Yemeni Armed Forces declared that the attacks are launched in response “to the oppression of the Palestinian people, who are currently being subjected to killing, destruction and siege in the Gaza Strip, and in response to the calls of our great free Yemeni people and our nation.”
Ansar Allah repeated their warning that ships going to Israeli ports will not be able to reach their destinations and are legitimate targets until sufficient food and medicine arrive in the Gaza Strip.
Amid the ongoing Houthi attacks, the British company British Petroleum decided to suspend oil supplies through the Red Sea for security reasons. The shipping company Evergreen Line also announced the same decision. Last week, Danish Maersk and German Hapag-Lloyd AG also suspended their operations in the Red Sea. Meanwhile, oil prices are growing.
