Another US Soldier Died In 'Non-Combat Related Incident' In Iraq

A US soldier died from wounds sustained during an operation in Iraq on Saturday, the US Department of Defense has reported.

35-year-old Chief Warrant Officer 2 Lee M. Smith of Arlington Texas was assigned to the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

According to an official version, Smith died at Camp Taji due to injuries sustained from “a non-combat related incident“. The situation is under investigation.

Camp Taji is located 14km north of Baghdad, far away from a frontline with ISIS.

“On behalf of U.S. Central Command, we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of a fallen American Soldier in service to our country. Sgt. 1st Class Stephen B. Cribben, Operation Freedom’s Sentinel SFC Cribben embodies the American spirit, and his dedication to selfless service on behalf of our nation will not be forgotten,” Gen Joseph L. Votel, commander of United States Central Command, said in a statement.
