As a result of the negotiation process, another prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine took place on December 6. The warring sides exchanged by 60 prisoners of war.
On the Russian side, the prisoner swap was announced by the acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin and then confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defence. LPR officials confirmed that the released POWs include two servicemen from the LPR.
All released Russian servicemen will be taken to Moscow for treatment and rehabilitation in medical institutions.
On the Ukrainian side, the prisoner swap was confirmed by the head of the office of the President, Andrei Yarmak. 15 Ukrainian officers and 45 soldiers from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard and the State Security Service, including two women, came back to Ukraine.
Among the released POWs, there were 34 members of Ukrainian formations who surrendered in Mariupol; 14 of them surrendered from Azovstal.
On December 1, Denis Pushilin reported about another exchange of prisoners according to the formula “50-50”, including 20 fighters of the People’s Militia of the DPR and LPR who returned home.
