Another Houthi Drone Reaches Israel In Second Attack In 24 Hours

The Houthis (Ansar Allah) announced on July 30 that they had launched five suicide drones at multiple targets in Israel in response to the war on the Gaza Strip.

“The first operation targeted a sensitive target in the occupied Jaffa area with two drones. The second operation targeted a military target in the occupied Ashkelon area with two drones. The third operation targeted a military target in the occupied Negev with one drone,” Houthi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree said in a statement, claiming that the operations were all “successful.”

“Yemen, its leadership, people, and army, call on all members of the Arab and Islamic nation to fulfill their religious, moral, and humanitarian duties toward the oppressed Palestinian people, and to take to the streets in the coming days in support of justice and in rejection of the ongoing genocide against our brothers in the Gaza Strip. They also call for pressure to lift the siege and end the starvation and deprivation of their rights,” he added.

Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that a drone launched at Israel by the Houthis from Yemen was intercepted by the Israeli Air Force. The drone was shot down over the Egyptian border area, according to the military. No casualties or damage was reported.

This was the second Houthi attack on Israel in less than 24 hours. On July 29, the group launched a “hypersonic ballistic missile” at Ben Gurion Airport. The IDF said at the time that the missile was intercepted by air defenses.

Since March 18, when the IDF resumed its offensive against Hamas in Gaza, the Houthis have launched around 66 ballistic missiles and 18 suicide drones at targets in Israel. The group also sank two ships directly linked to Israel in the Red Sea.

Israel carried out six waves of strikes targeting civilian infrastructure in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen in response. However, the group was not deterred.

More escalation on the Yemeni front is to be expected. On one hand, the IDF is reportedly preparing a major, broad-based operation against the Houthis with the aim of neutralizing the threat posed by the group for an extended period.

On the other hand, the Houthis announced earlier in the week that they will target any ships belonging to companies that do business with Israeli ports, regardless of their nationalities, as part of what it called the fourth phase of its military operations against Israel in support of Gaza.
