On the evening of August 18th, an explosion thundered in Tel Aviv. Israeli security services reported a failed terrorist attack in the country’s capital.
The incident took place on Lehi Street in Tel Aviv. An explosive device went off in the bag of a 50-year-old man. He was killed by the explosion, and one passerby received multiple shrapnel wounds.
Police and the Shin Bet security agency said that the blast was an intended terror attack. Their joint statement says that after an initial investigation, “it can be assumed that this was a terror attack, with the detonation of a powerful explosive device.” The Shin Bet security agency is still working to identify the man who was killed while carrying the bomb in his backpack. Kan news reported that the man is believed to be a Palestinian from the West Bank.
The security forces assume that for an unknown reason, the explosive device went off ahead of time. According to the intelligence services, the man was heading to a more crowded place – a nearby shopping mall or synagogue.
The Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam Brigades and the Al-Quds Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack. In a joint statement, both brigades reveal that martyrdom operations will return to the forefront until occupation’s massacres, displacement of civilians, and assassinations are ongoing. The attacks will continue in response to the Israeli occupation’s escalation and continuing crimes against Palestinians.
