ISIS Khorasan Province (ISIS-KP) announced on March 21 that its fighters had shelled the U.S. Bagram Airfield in the eastern Afghan province of Parwan.
The terrorist group’s news agency, Amaq, released photos showing the fighters preparing at least ten 107 mm rocket for the attack.
The Bagram Airfield is the largest U.S. military base in Afghanistan. The base has a dual runway capable of handling large military aircrafts. Many units of the Afghan Armed Forces (AAF) and the U.S.-led Resolute Support Mission are stationed in the base.
Afghan sources didn’t report any damage or causalities as a result of the rocket attack on the airfield. Any losses are usually revealed within a few hours.
This was the second rocket attack by ISIS-PK on the Bagram Airfield in the last 30 days. The group’s ability to attack such high value targets indicates that its influence in the province is growing. This poses a dangerous threat to both Afghan and U.S. forces.
