On May 17th, the Russian military carried out a missile strike in the Ukrainian Chernigiv region. The strike destroyed the 169th training center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the town of Desna.
On the day of the shelling, the Ukrainian State Emergency Service reported 8 dead and 17 wounded according to preliminary data.
Only a week later, on May 23, President of Ukraine claimed that the clearing of the rubble was completed. The official number of the victims increased significantly.
According to the claims of Zelensky, 87 Ukrainian servicemen were killed. The number of the wounded was not revealed.
” You know, today, for example, … we finished the work (on the analysis of blockages) in Desna. Unfortunately, today’s statistics … in Desna … under the rubble … today …. 87 victims, 87 corpses, killed, lives. Lives. But you know what life is. Life is the future. That is, without these people there will already be the future of Ukraine.” – Zelensky claimed.
At the same time, the video showing the claims of the Ukrainian president as usually raised suspicions that Mr Zelensky was gowed during his speech. The waring are also attempting to hide the real numbers of their casualties during the war. Thus, the declared numbers may be doubted.
