On April 30, 22 buses entered the villages of Kefraya and al-Fouaa in the eastern part of Idlib province in order to evacuate a first batch of people from this area besieged by militants.

According to the Syrian state-run news agency SANA, the buses will transport 1,500 people from Kefraya and al-Fouaa to the al-I’yes crossing after which they will be transported to the Jabrin temporary housing center east of the city of Aleppo.

The evacuation is a part of the wider deal reached between the Syrian government and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) members in southern Damascus. Under this deal, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham militants will be able to surrender all the  heavy weapons and to withdraw to the militant-held part of Idlib.

The implementation of the southern Damascus part of the agreemnt is also undergoing now.
