A Russian missile strike hit a training center of Kiev forces in the Ukraine’s Chernihiv region on July 29, causing mass casualties.

The 169th Training Centre of the Ukrainian Ground Forces was reported the target of the attack. Two Iskander-M tactical ballistic missiles hit the center, deployed near the settlement of Goncharovskoye, as troops were gathered for training, according to video footage released by Russian media.

Kiev forces acknowledged the strike in a statement claiming that only three soldiers were killed and 18 others were wounded.

“Today, July 29, the enemy launched a missile strike on the territory of one of the training units of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the Ground Forces said on Telegram.

“Despite the security measures taken, unfortunately it was not possible to completely avoid losses among the personnel. As of 21:30, it is known that there are three dead and 18 wounded servicemen.”

From its side, Russian media reported that over 200 Ukrainian troops were killed or wounded as a result of the pinpoint missile strike.

The strike was the latest in a series of similar Russian attacks on training facilities across Ukraine. One deadly attack last June prompted the commander of the ground forces to tender his resignation to Kiev and he was reassigned to another post.

Most of these attacks were carried out using Iskander-M missiles, which can reach their target within a few minutes giving the enemy no real early warning.

The Iskander-M is reported to have a range of nearly 500 kilometers. The highly-maneuverable missile can be armed with different conventional warheads. The missile is guided by a GLONASS-aided inertial navigation system. It can be also equipped with an optical seeker with a digitized scene-mapping area correlator system for terminal guidance.
