About 121,000 civilians have been evacuated from the Damascus subrub of Eastern Ghouta over the past month, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said during a UN Security Council meeting on the humanitarian situation in Syria on March 27.
Meanwhile, an evacuation of militants that had accepted a reconciliation agreement in the southern part of Eastern Ghouta continued. As soon as all the militants that want to withdraw leave the area, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) will establish security in the entire area.
A daily humanitarian pause was introduced in Eastern Ghouta on February 27. Evacuation of large numbers of civilians have allowed the SA to launch a successfull military operation against mitlitants in the area and to re-establish control of about 85% of the region.
