At least 120,000 people attended the funeral of Aleksandr Zakharchenko, the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) last weekend. Zakharchenko died from wounds suffered in a terrorist attack in a cafe in the DPR capital of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine on September 31.
According to the DPR, the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces were behind this terrorist attack. The Russian side described the assasination of Zakharchenko as an attempt to undermine a peaceful process in the region. The Ukrainian side claims that the assasination of Zakharchenko was caused by some internal tensions within the DPR leadership.
