On May 23, a series of blasts targeted several locations in the towns of Jableh and Tartus in Syria’s Latakia province. The targeted locations are close to Russian military facilities: the Khmeimim airbase and the Tartus naval base.
- 3 consecutive explosions took place near a bus station in the city of Jableh ;
- a blast rocked Jableh’s hospital;
- 3 explosions targeted at a bus terminal in Tartus.
According to local police, the deat tool exceed 100. Over 70 people were killed in Jableh and at least 30 people were killed in attacks in Tartus.
The US-backed “moderate opposition” group, Ahrar ash-Sham al-Islamiyya, took responsibility for the attacks in both Jableh and Tartus.
